Brrrr. No sun. Threat of rain. Cold wind blowing. Still. 32 people managed to show up for the first tournament of the season, a doubles melee, in Bryant Park.
Unfortunately we were missing quite a few shooters due to different circumstances.
The sun played peekaboo later in the afternoon, just long enough to see Eric Bertin beat his daughter, Sandra, in the finals with a carreau for 3 points. A well played game, featuring timely points and crucial shots.

LBNY is not short on ambassadors. Here is Franck Petronio in Japan with his wife, visiting the Aoyama Petanque Club. Just a month ago they got a visit from the great Philippe Quintais! I can't wait so see the shirts he brings back.

... but of course the La Boule New Yorkaise family keeps growing. Meet Maeva Labasse, born November 1, 2007, and almost ready to pick up some boules.

HERY'S GONE. At around 6 pm Saturday he boarded a flight back to Madagascar, back to his homeland. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are all saddened. We lost not only a great petanque player—the best in the country—but also a dear friend. But life goes on. He promises to keep in touch. And if we are lucky enough, we will see him again in another place and another time, maybe in France or in Madagascar. And we will be playing petanque. We will always have petanque. That is Hery's gift to us.

Here are the results of the board of directors election of New York Petanque, Inc / La Boule New Yorkaise. 37 votes were cast in time (by Feb 9). On Feb 10, Yngve and Ernesto opened the ballots and counted the votes. Yngve later made another count to verify the results.
Congratulations to the new board of directors. The top 4 vote getters will serve the full 2 year terms. The next 5 will serve a shorten 1 year terms to create a stagger.
The new board of directors will next meet to appoint officers.
We had our annual meeting at Tout Va Bien. A little more than 20 members showed up. A lively crew.
The club passed new bylaws: La Boule New Yorkaise is now a division of New York Petanque, Inc., a nonprofit corporation. Elections were postponed to make way for a new round of nominations and an election by mail-in ballots to be completed by mid-February.
